Mutton Curry (Natural…. Thick Gravy)



  1. 1/2 kg of nicely washed mutton
  2. 1 Tsp of turmeric powder
  3. 2 Pinches of garam masala
  4. 2 Green chili.
  5. One small cup of poodina
  6. One spoon of coriander powder.
  7. Two spoons of coconut powder.
  8. 1 Tsp of Ginger garlic paste
  9. Sufficient coriander leaves.
  10. Sufficient salt.
  11. Two biryani leaves
  12. One small onion
  13. Two spoons of red chili powder
  14. Two pieces of cinnamon
  15. Two pieces of cloves
  16. Two pieces of cardamom
  17. 1/4 Tsp of caraway seeds.
  18. 6 spoons of oil.


  • Initially marinate the mutton, add some oil, 1/2 spoon of coriander powder, 1/2 Tsp of ginger garlic paste, 1/2 Tsp of turmeric, 2 Spoons of red chili, One spoon of coconut powder, 2 pinches of Garam masala and sufficient salt.

  • Just mix everything nicely until everything is combined perfectly, do it for atleast for 2 or 3 minutes, then just allow to marinate for atleast 15 to 30 minutes.

  • Heat the bowl add oil, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom seeds, caraway seeds, pudina, biryani leaves, green chili and onions for tempering.

  • Add turmeric, ginger garlic paste and coconut powder. Just saute them nicely.

  • Add mutton pieces, just nicely comfort them with other ingredients present in the bowl. Here comes the stage of preparing gravy.

  • Put the plate on bowl and add water into it as shown in below, allowing for 20 to 25 minutes in medium flame.

  • Well this is the traditional way of preparing gravy the reason to add water on this lid is, as the time goes on, once the water present on the lid becomes hot, inside the bowl sweating will be started. Then a moisture is formed which actually creates a steam and pressure inside the bowl. At the end of the day water will be generated from mutton pieces which finally becomes gravy naturally.
  • In the process of 25 minutes, in between you need to stir the mutton and allowing for remaining period of time.

  • You can add water on lid when the levels are decreased.

  • After 25 minutes just add coriander powder, mix it thoroughly.

  • Once done add the hot water present on lid, mix the curry nicely and allow for 15 minutes in low flame.


  • After 15 minutes add one spoon of coconut powder, then allow for final 3 minutes in low flame.

  • That’s it add coriander leaves, just take mutton curry for serving.
